ABSTRACT: Addressing Socio-Economic Barriers to Vocational Education explores the socio-economic factors that hinder access to and success in vocational education, particularly among disadvantaged populations. This study investigates the challenges faced by individuals from lower socio-economic backgrounds in accessing vocational training opportunities and proposes strategies to mitigate these barriers. The objectives were: to identify socio-economic barriers to vocational education participation, to analyze the impact of these barriers on educational outcomes and career prospects, and to recommend interventions to promote equitable access to vocational education. A survey research design was chosen to gather data from students, educators, policymakers, and community leaders, offering diverse perspectives on socio-economic barriers in vocational education. A sample size of 300 respondents was purposively selected to include participants from urban and rural areas of Ogun State, Nigeria, known for its diverse socio-economic landscape. The case study focused on vocational training centers in Abeokuta, highlighting specific challenges and success stories. Findings indicated that socio-economic barriers such as affordability, lack of information, and societal perceptions significantly hindered access to vocational education and influenced career trajectories. It is recommended that comprehensive financial aid programs, career counseling services, outreach initiatives to underserved communities, and partnerships with local businesses should be implemented to address socio-economic barriers and promote inclusive vocational education opportunities for all.
